The Texas Education Agency designed the
Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS)
to assess the progress that limited English proficient (LEP)
students make in learning the English language.
The English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS),
outline English language proficiency level descriptors
and student expectations for English language learners (ELLs).
In Texas, school districts are required to implement ELPS
as an integral part of each subject in the required curriculum.
TEA has created some great ELPS training materials that can be found HERE.
I took the question stems in one of the ELPS training guides
and created question cards for the teachers in our district
to print and use with their students.
There are six different sets of color coded question cards-
each containing 18 different cards.
Cause and Effect
Compare and Contrast
Inferencing and Predicting
Organize and Classify
Summarize and Paraphrase
as well as a set of Probing Question cards.
Although these were created for use with LEP students,
they are great for ALL students!
You can download a copy of the question cards HERE.
I even included directions for how to print the question cards.
Since they are PDF's- you can print a bunch per page
or print them whole page to hang in your room!
