Pinterest in Education?

I've been using Pinterest since it first began issuing invitations
and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
I'm a visual learner & an OCD organizational freak
so it's perfect for someone like me!
When they came out with the app I was in heaven!
Those nights when I can't sleep, I just pin away!

I first started using Pinterest for personal things-
pinning recipes and craft projects and home ideas
but quickly realized that it would be a fabulous way to
organize and store school related ideas!

It seems that I pin more education type things these days than
I do other things and it seems that daily the
# of educators on Pinterest is increasing.

I think it is a super valuable tool for educators and
when I hear of school districts that have completely blocked Pinterest
it greatly saddens and worries me!

I've been doing a lot of research and reading on Pinterest in Education
and would love to hear your thoughts on this Pinterest Survey!
Would you pretty please fill it out for me?

  1. I wish it wasn't blocked at school! It's so good for organizing teacher ideas! I took the survey and started following your blog! :)

  2. Not an educator here, but I would be concerned with letting kids use Pinterest in the classroom unless there was a filter. I've had some searches bring up some "interesting" hits. That said, my kids have been pinning things and I like it much, much better than bookmarking sites. LOVE me some Pinterest!!

    1. Girl.... You ARE an educator! And I totally agree with you!

  3. I've found it to be an amazing tool to find and organise the great ideas that teachers are sharing. I'm so disappointed that it's been blocked in my school (although I've recently begun pestering for it to be unblocked) because I used it all the time for planning for my Prep/Grade 1 students.

Great survey - it would be very interesting to see what people's thoughts are on using Pinterest with students. It's great for that visual bookmarking/ease of use. The lack of filtering is a concern, though.

    1. I will definitely share the results- since I posted it last night over 50 people have completed the survey!

I hate that it has been blocked for you! I've been worried about that which is one reason I've been doing some research and collecting data about how teachers are using it. Want to be ready in case I need to defend it!

  4. I use it at school to pull up my Pins. I have used it show samples of work, videos that are pinned, etc. I do not actually let the kids on Pinterest. I love it!!!!

  5. Filled out the survey! I'm an 8th grade Studies teacher and I started using Pinterest for crafts and recipes and now I mostly use if for school stuff! It helped me discover so many blogs, including yours WHICH I LOVE!!! :-)

  6. How sad that teachers can't use it at work! I am so glad my district supports it. Some schools even have group boards going.

  7. Pinterest is blocked at my school. Waaaa! I am such an addict. I have all kinds of classroom ideas that I want to implement. Thank goodness there are pictures and links attached because I would never remember all of those ideas!

  8. I love Pinterest! Unfortunately, my district recent blocked it. So now to pull up a pin, I have to get on Pinterest on my phone, pull up the pin, and e-mail myself the link. Sort of defeats the purpose of making life easier!

  9. I love your blog and always find great ideas! I have given you a lovely blog award! Please come by and check it out.

  10. Not blocked at my school (yet). I use it the same way others have mentioned. My kids have moms who use it, so they already know about it.

Check out my new blog- I am giving away a $25 gift card to Target to celebrate :)

  11. Oh my gosh, IN LOVE with Pinterest! My summer to do list of things I need to create has tripled since browsing lately, lol. I love your blog and wanted to award you the One Lovely Blog Award :o) If you check out my blog it tells you how to recieve your award and pass it on.
